When I (Miranda) was in college, one of my graphic design professors always said, "You can't design in a vacuum." I think it holds true to being successful at anything you do. Relating it to photography, Adam and I have a great circle of "photo friends." We talk shop, push each other's creativity, and inspire each other as people, business owners and artists.
Besides our closely-knit group, we chat with photographers from all over via blogs (like the one you can find our interview on), facebook, discussion boards, etc. It's so awesome being able to connect with each other and really elevate each other's work... looking at one another as co-workers instead of competition.
